Pastoral Care

Praying and walking together as a church family through some of lifeʼs most difficult circumstances is the heart of the Care Ministry at First Baptist Matthews. We are honored to serve people during hospitalization, times of grief and during later years of life through homebound and nursing home visitation. In times of death our team works hard to meet the needs of each family in remembering their loved ones.

1 Corinthians 12:25-26
that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry equips God’s people to share Christ’s love through one-to-one care for individuals who are experiencing life’s challenges and difficulties.

A Stephen Minister Is. . .

  • A volunteer who has received 50 hours of training in providing emotional and spiritual care
  • A congregation member who is carefully selected to serve in this role because of his or her gifts
  • A caring, Christian friend who listens, cares, prays, supports, and encourages
  • Someone who will “be there” for his or her care receiver; meeting faithfully for about an hour each week, for as long as there’s a need
