About FBC Matthews

Welcome to the First Baptist Church of Matthews!

On this site, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of some of what God is doing at FBCM and some of the ministry opportunities and resources that are available. You can go to our podcast section of the site and download or listen to a recent message. However, nothing will substitute the personal touch of worshipping with and meeting the FBC Matthews family.

We believe that we exist to bring glory to God! We bring God maximum glory by seeking and finding him as the greatest joy and highest treasure of our lives. This begins when a person savingly believes the gospel and receives Jesus Christ as the Lord of his/her life. This begins a lifetime of following Christ and finding our highest joy in Him.

If you live in or are visiting the Charlotte area, we invite you to come and worship with us. You'll find a people who are passionate for God and a heart to reach people with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We pray you are greatly blessed and thank you once again for visiting our site!

For the Glory of Christ,

First Baptist Church of Matthews

"Treasuring, Following and Sharing Christ for the Glory of Christ"

For the Glory of Christ speaks to the sum total of why we exist as First Baptist Church of Matthews. We are to do all things for the glory of Christ.

Treasuring Christ speaks of worship and the value we place on Jesus Christ. He is the highest treasure of our lives and the head of His church. This informs our worship life both individually and corporately as the church.

Following Christ speaks of discipleship. We glorify Christ best when we are being shaped into His image as we follow Him with our hearts. We know God has not designed this to happen in isolation, but through fellowship with other believers in a spiritual community, FBCM utilizes Shepherd Groups to foster this sense of spiritual community.

Sharing Christ speaks of Missions and Evangelism. The Great Commission given by the Lord Jesus to the church is to "make disciples, baptize them, and teach them all the things that He commanded" (Matthew 28:18-20). This fleshes out the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ... that Jesus Christ was born into this world, lived the perfect life, and died on the cross as a substitute for the sins of the world and then rose from the dead. We respond to the gospel by repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. All of life then flows out of our response to the gospel.
